Can a Juvenile Felon get Jobs in Healthcare?

Can a Juvenile Felon get Jobs in Healthcare?

I was 16 years old,  I got arrested. I was put in the wrong situation which involved my mother and her boyfriend. I was told they took a plea and allowed the felony to be put on me. I went and got certified in nursing was working for 12 years and now it is haunting me. I love healthcare and want to try to stay in the field. I feel that I belong helping others. I just want a good paying job that I love to go to everyday. Is there anything out there I can work or go to school for?

Can a Juvenile Felon get Jobs in Healthcare?

Can a Juvenile Felon get Jobs in Healthcare?I get this often from ex-offenders and felons with juvenile records who are looking for jobs. Contrary to what many people believe, juvenile records do not disappear when on reaches the age of adult. In many states, juvenile records are sealed. Sealed meaning they are hidden from the public. They will always be available, however, to the court system, law enforcement and government agencies. Since many jobs in health care require licensing or certifications there will be the question of can you be certified.

You will have contact the medical licensing board in your state to see if your conviction will keep you from being certified or licensed.

I hope this helps

Ex-offenders and felons can consider tech careers

Ex-offenders and felons can consider tech careers

We appreciate what you do for us, thanks a lot. I'm a violent ex-offender in vocational school in Florida for HVAC. I have an armed bank robbery charge, 1st time offender. I also am bilingual in Spanish. I want to eventually start my own business but my charge makes it difficult for me to do residential air conditioning. I'm aware I could do commercial but it seems to be a lot of obstacles for me to even get into the field with my charge and even more issues getting a contractors license later due to money and my charge. Therefore, I've been considering auto mechanic technician course, where it appears there will be less of a hassle to get work and start my own business in that.

So my question is, is it possible to get a really good opportunity as a auto mechanic tech with decent money and to start my own business in that despite my background or will I have better chances sticking to HVAC. Brother, I'm at the crossroads on this. I don't have a problem educating myself for a better life. It's just, being correct in the education for the situation that is. I could seriously take some sound advice and suggestions from you. I really appreciate this outlet you have provided for me and others.

Thanks man!

Ex-offenders and felons can consider tech careers

A: Hello,

First of all, are you certain you cannot get a contractor's license? I meet too many ex-offenders and felons that assume that they are not eligible for certain types of employment because of their backgrounds.   To be sure you can, contact the licensing board to inquire if your conviction prohibits you from being licensed. You can contact them here:

Division of Professions
Construction Industry Licensing Board
1940 North Monroe Street
Tallahassee, FL 32399-0783

http://www.myfloridalicense.com/dbpr/pro/cilb/index.html

With the large Hispanic population in Florida, there is opportunity for you to build a good HVAC business. Even if you choose an automotive career, you can either get a job working for larger automotive maintenance shops (Sears, Pep Boys, Strauss,) dealerships, independent garages or you could even start small and build a list of customers.

If you choose a job, be sure to let the employer know that you can be bonded.  Ex-offenders and felons can be bonded by the Federal Bonding Program.  Take a look at the videos below for more information.

Technical careers are a great alternative to jobs for felons and ex-offenders.

I hope this helps.

Felons' mom wants to help them get jobs

Felons' mom wants to help them get  jobs

A CLOSER LOOK AT THE FAMILIES OF MASS INCARCERATION

I live in North Carolina and I have two sons. One is 24 and the other is 21. The 24 year old got in trouble 5 years ago for DWI and for having less than an ounce of marijuana on him. He went to rehab and has worked construction and done pylon work. He can not get employment anywhere because of his record what can be done? He has not been in any trouble since then.

The 21 year old has had several issues with Driving with no operators license, DWI, drinking underage. He was charged back in 2016 at the time of the incident but did not go to trial until last year. So he decided to get it over with and do his days in jail to not have to deal with probation. Recently he tried to get on with a company he worked for before and because of the charges they would not hire him back.

How long does someone have to keep on paying for crimes committed years ago. Both these boys deserve a chance to make it in this world, unfortunately they were not able to attend college because being a single mother I could not afford it. I have worked for the same company for over 20 years, this same company is the one that would not hire my son back. At some point doesn't the state step in and say enough is enough, a lot of the people we have tried to hire have records of some sort and because of it we can't hire them, so instead people like me who have fended by myself raising two boys have to support them when they go on welfare. What can I do or they do to find a job?

Charmane,

Felons' mom wants to help them get  jobs

Hello Charmane,

Felons' mom wants to help them get jobs
I'm sorry your sons are having so much trouble. I suggest that they apply for employment at temporary agencies. Temp agencies are always looking for good people. When applying for temporary employment, ex-offenders and felons should apply at smaller independent agencies rather that the large nationally known agencies. Usually smaller agencies do not have a parent companies setting hiring restrictions on them. They hire anyone they choose. Often if temporary employees are good, they are hired on a permanent basis.

Another option is to apply at construction contractors.  Contractors are always looking for employees who can get to work on time and put in a full days work for a full days pay.  Those with special skills like masonry or carpentry would be given a fair chance regardless of their criminal records

There is also a link below to companies that give chances to qualified felons.

The best of luck to you and your sons.

Felon wants to be a locksmith

Felon wants to be a locksmith

Felon wants to be a locksmith
I am wondering if u can help me with a question that i have. I live in Indianapolis, Indiana and I am a convicted felon. I would like to know if I can become a licensed locksmith? If I can then what do I need to do to become a locksmith? Any information would be very helpful.

Thank You.

Felon wants to be a locksmith

Hello,

Felon wants to be a locksmithTo my knowledge, the state of Indiana does not require locksmiths to be licensed. One thing I do caution self-employed ex-offenders and felons is to inquire if your conviction prohibits you from getting bonded.

A bond is an insurance policy that protects your customers from any type of loss as a result of doing business with you. I know ex-offenders and felons looking for jobs can be bonded through a program offered by the federal government. The program however does not extend to businesses owned by felons, only for felons who are employed or seek to be employed.

You can find more about the federal bonding program here:

Ex-offenders and felons looking for jobs should know what is in their records

Ex-offenders and felons looking for jobs should know what is in their records
The Truth about Background Checks
Which reputable company can I go to online or the most popular or common to do a background check on myself. I want to be able to know exactly what's on my record so I'll know what to put on my application when filling them out.

Thanks

Ex-offenders and felons looking for jobs should know what is in their records

That's a very good question.

I encourage all ex-offenders and felons looking for jobs to find out exactly what is in their respective criminal records. This will allow them to be honest when applying for jobs.

Ex-offenders and felons looking for jobs should know what is in their records
An employer may perform a background check through an investigative service or state or federal law enforcement agencies. The law allows public access to felony conviction records without consent of the person whose record is being checked. Local law enforcement agencies may provide this information for a fee.

The best and most accurate resource for criminal records is from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (The FBI)

Individuals can obtain a copy of their national criminal history record from the FBI by submitting a request to the address below.

In order to receive a copy of your FBI record for personal, employment, or international work requirements the FBI requires the following:

1) A signed written request with a brief explanation for the request and your complete return
mailing address.

2) Every request for records must contain two completed applicant fingerprint cards with all of the applicant's personal information (name, date of birth, place of birth, etc.) and a current set of 10 rolled fingerprints and eight flat finger impressions. Fingerprints and impressions must be taken by a local police department.

3) An $18.00 fee in U.S. currency by certified check or money order payable to the United States Treasury. This information is provided in compliance with the U.S. Freedom of Information Act.

FBI
CJIS Division
ATTN: SCU, MOD.D-2
1000 Custer Hollow Road
Clarksburg, West Virginia 26303
For more information, you may contact the FBI at 304-625-3878

An easier way to get an accurate copy of your criminal record is from your probation or parole officer. He/she can get it without a fee.

I hope this helps.

Will educated felons be able to get corporate jobs?

Taking a lawbreaking past out of college applications

Hello,

I am a 25 year old college student currently working on my M.S. in Information and Communication Science. When I was 20 I was convicted of "Accessory to a felony after the fact" in Texas (the crime actually happened just 6 months after turning 18). I have not been in trouble with the law since and finished my 5 year probation with no problems. I am smart, attractive, and one of the only women in my program at school. My advisors keep telling me how easy it will be for me to get a job in computer science as a woman due to the lack of diversity amongst gender in many corporations. I am very fearful that I will not be able to get any job after graduation due to my felony record. I have contacted two lawyers in Texas about expungement but they have told me to quit dreaming and that felony expungements are far and few between in the state of Texas (I live in Michigan now). Is this true? Is there no chance for me to get this off my record ever? I am afraid that I have put all of this money into my education and still will not be able to get a successful job because of a stupid decision I made 7 years ago. What are my options? What is some general advice on this issue? Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

KN

Will educated felons be able to get corporate jobs?

Hello,

Expungement may not be an option for many ex-offenders and felons looking for jobs, but don not give up.  Layers are going to hate my next suggestion because there are attorneys who make their livings by helping people with the expungement process.  My suggestion is to contact your local legal aid office.  There, you will get valuable advice and you can find out if it is a a viable option for you.  If it is an option, you may be able to get low cost or even free assistance and if it can help your career.

I know of ex-offenders and convicted felons with far worse charges than yours who have gone on to have great careers. Companies hire people with criminal records everyday.  A bit of advice is whenever possible, apply for jobs using your resume and well written cover letters. Often by using this method, the criminal record question may never come up. If the question arises, always be honest while letting the person know the event in your life was an isolated incident and you are fortunate to have put it behind you. Also talk about how hard you have worked to overcome your past.

I'm sure you will make out just fine.  In the meantime, take a look at the article linked here:

Felon wants to expunge federal and state convictions

Felon wants to expunge federal and state convictions

The price of a second chance; expungement explained
The Job Market is Cold Blooded out here. I need help I have lost my Job, my Apartment. When people know that you have a record they will not respect you as a working class person. I was fired so a Chef could get my job. I had been there almost one month. I told the Chef about my record he was like can you pass a Drug test I was sure. I passed. I told him my charge was over 20 years old he was like don't worry about that. The Sous Chef wanted my job for his friend so he had the Chef's boss do a background check and the fired me saying I was not doing my job. Two months later I run into a old co - worker they said I was fired because of my record. It's hard out here.

Felon wants to expunge federal and state convictions

I have good news and bad news. You may have a possibility of having your state record expunged. Often ex-offender and felon job searches begin with some legal assistance. Check with your local legal aid office to see if you are eligible in your state. There you can get the best information on the expungement process as it relates to your state. If possible, you may also get help getting that done there. As far as your federal charges, there is no such thing as the expungement of federal records. You may apply for a federal pardon, but they are rarely given.

Be tough in your job search. Apply to every restaurant you can think of. Even a blind man will hit something if he throws enough rocks.

Take a look at the video below.  You will find some possible places that ex-offenders and felons can get some job leads.

Felon with deferred conviction wants job advice

Felon with deferred conviction wants job advice

Hello,

I found your web page to be informational and also motivational. I was charged with theft and it is deferred I have not completed my probation, but my question is when I complete the probation and finish paying all my fines. I am wondering if it make sense at all to go back to school to become an ADN, LVN or counselor. I am wonder if these jobs will hire me with this charge. Or would you send me some information about expungement. Would that apply for me and how should I go about it.

Thank you for your help in advance. I have applied for so many jobs. I can't count and I get turned down time and time again.

Sincerely

Melinda

Felon with deferred conviction wants job advice

Hello Melinda,

Generally speaking, when the terms of deferred sentences are met (in most cases, a fine and probation,) charges are formally dropped. If you are unsure of the terms, you should contact the prosecutor assigned to your case.

Once the terms are met, there will be no conviction simply a dropped charge. In most cases, employers are only interested in convictions. If there are provisions in your state for expungement or sealing, it won't hurt to apply for it. Many ex-offenders and felons looking for jobs need legal help. Contact your local legal aid office to find out if this is an option for you.

I hope this helps.

Felon wants job in Information Technology

Felon wants job in Information Technology

Felon wants job in Information TechnologyI am currently in the process of getting my degree in Information Technology. I am concerned that when I receive my degree, I will not be able to land a job because of my background. I was convicted of Possession With The Intent to Distribute, 8 years ago. I have spoken to a lawyer and he said that in Virginia, if you plead guilty there is no way to expunge the conviction from my record.

Now, I have stayed out of trouble since then and that is my only felony. When I see a job on-line, I notice that they say "must be able to pass a background check". What exactly does this mean. I seen on-line comments that it depends on the charge and the how long it has been. I would one day like to be able to receive a security clearance. Do you think I will ever be able to get past this blemish on my record or will I always be doom because of my past?

Thank you,

Daniel

Felon wants job in Information Technology

Hello Daniel,

Unfortunately your conviction isn't going anywhere. You have nothing to lose by applying for every job you believe you are qualified for. One suggestion I have for ex-offenders and felons looking for professional jobs is to always apply by mail using your resume and a well written letter of introduction that explains exactly what you are trying to accomplish.  Never mention that you have a criminal record until the employer does.  Hopefully using this method, your criminal record will not even come up.  If it does come up, briefly explain what the problem was and focus on your accomplishments and why you are the person for the job.

Take a look at the video below.  It will give you some insight on this method.

Also, in 2015 President Barack Obama started what is known as the Fair Chance Initiative.   The Fair Chance Initiative encourages employers to offer qualified ex-offenders and felons equal opportunities when being considered for jobs.  You can find more information here.

Jobs for Ex-offenders and felons: sending Resumes and Cover Letters

Don't make the mistake that many ex-offenders and felons make looking for jobs. Do not assume that because you have a criminal record you will not be hired. You must go after every job you feel you are qualified for. Don't give up. Remember, even a blind man will hit something if he throws enough rocks.

I hope this helps.

Felon wants to become a teacher

Felon wants to become a teacher

Hello there,

Thank you very much for this resource. I am a 26 year old woman looking to get a teaching certificate. I would like to teach elementary, Jr. High, or High School. I was given a deferred sentence in 2013 for Felony Menacing. Again, the charge was deferred and I successfully completed my probationary term. As I understand it, there was no plea of guilty and I was not charged. I was told that law enforcement and other government agencies will have access to view the record of the arrests. Does this disqualify me from working with children and becoming a teacher? I still have to get my teaching certificate and would really, really like to do so. I just need to get the appropriate information to ensure that this is possible and that I will not run into any trouble with this situation.

If you can provide me with links and resources I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you for your time and service,

Randi

Felon wants to become a teacher

Hello Randi,

Generally speaking, in cases like these, upon completion of your probation, the charges are formally dropped. You will have an arrest record but no conviction record. I can't see that being held against you. I don't see any reason you cannot become a teacher. To be absolutely certain, you can contact the prosecutor who was associated with your case to make sure the charges were actually dropped.

For anyone else who is considering teaching but have criminal records, don't assume you cannot get a teaching certificate.  If your conviction is not directly related to the job you are looking for you may still be able to be certified.  My suggestion is to contact the board of education where you would like to teach.  There should be someone who could direct you to the state certification board to determine you eligibility.

I hope this helps.

Expungement could help felons get Jobs

Hello Sir:

I was convicted of felony in 2009 for possession and delivery of narcotics, I served 26 months and everything has been well for me until 2019. I have been having a hard time getting a job in my field of study, which is computer science. I am enclosing my resume so that you can take a look at all of the places I have worked, but can't seem to find work because of the intense background checks now. ONE Conviction 21 Years ago man it's hard.

Please Advise.

Thank you.

Hello Jason,

Looking at your background, your inability to find work may be due to other factors. Some convictions are more difficult to work with than others.  Take a look at the first video below.  It will give you an idea of what I mean.

For many ex-offenders and felons looking for jobs, expungement may help. Expungement will not erase your conviction but it may keep it off of the average background check. You can find more information here:

I would not attempt this alone. You may be able to get low-cost or even low-cost assistance at your local legal aid office.

I hope this helps
